This is not a new topic and the moderator may want to delete it. I have a simple remedy for spinal stenosis pain. I am at the stage where I'm booked in for surgery next Wednesday for laminectomy and foramenotomy L3/4, and Discectomy and rhyzolisis L4/5. The surgeo will make the call on spinal fusion when he goes in. I have spondylolisthesis which makes that a possibility.
My point is simple. I have found a method of pain relief that in all my reading I've never seen. Obviously if I've missed it so have others.

It's this. I put a neck roll under my right buttock. (That's the problem side). And at my lower back I bend a neck roll in half and stuff that in there. This lifts my lumbar spine right off the chair. And it stops the pain like no medicine, no therapy, it just stops it completely. I try to walk daily (ends in agony) and sitting is a no no. I try to cycle for 15-20 min daily and that seems to help. I was wondering why. Till now. IT lifts the spine on the dodgy side. SO I had a feeling that the pain was caused by pressure and I rckon it is, (you will say, well, of course) but why didn't anyone tell me this simple way to relieve it? I've had 6 months of excruciating pain like that which I read of in all of the posts here. And no one said, stick a neck roll under yr butt and one behind it and lift yr spine up. Incredible. Delete this Peter but please tell me how to post it in the relevant place. Thanks for this forum.

This can stay here Anne. And it seems you have mastered the way to post a new topic. Great!

As for stuffing rolls under your bum and doing exercise, they never say anything about this. Just hand out the drugs in many cases.

However, since the introduction of multidisciplinary pain clinics, we are now seeing much more talk about exercise, because exercise is truly the key to a better life with chronic pain, even if you never get a cure from it.

Thanks for such a great tip. I'm sure there will be people out there who will give this a go. It will only work with certain people, because we all have different problems, but it is worth a try by all people, just in case it works. And best thing is if it doesn't, there's no withdrawal symptoms if you stop using it.

I wish the ring (this Chronic Pain) had never come to me. I wish none of this had happened. (Frodo Baggins)

So do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide, is what to do with the time that is given to us. (Gandalf the Grey)

Johnno is having a bit of a joke I think! He means, it is a good post. Johnno I hope it helps. It was helpful when I wriggled into a certain position. But sometimes the pain is so bad I do give up. So with all my heart I hope it helps you dear man. My own solution is more drastic, I have to admit. I am going to have surgery tomorrow for what you have. Well, spondylolisthesis is one thing amongst many but it's the worst because. You like I have a spine like the leaning tower of Lego, which can be straightened only by fusion. I'm having laminectomy and foramenotomy on L3/5, and microdiscectomy and rhyzolisis on L4/5. If the surgeon thinks that will increase the instability caused by your friend the spondylolisthesis, he will do the fusion. Yuk, is all I can say, but I can't go on with the pain. This forum is good. I see there are others like me, same pain, same frustration. It's taken some time to get to the point of surgery. . I'll let you know how it goes. I'm half scared half excited. Is your spondylolisthesis fixable with fusion? What have you been told?
