Hey WAP,

Don’t knock it yet I’ve done two now both at a private hospital in Brisbane south western suburbs ,you take away from the clinic what benefits you the psychological part can be helpful using the white sounds best in a quiet room and dark is great .

Orthos and Physio’s seem to believe that if they convince you enough you’ll believe almost like the door knocking religious persons if you listen long and hard you will do the impossible .

The main thing is take in everything they say and use what you can ,I am unable to use any bike, cross trainer, walker or things that mean using anything below my hips I can stand and walk short distances using a cane any more and I’m stuffed I showed them this the day they had us do Physio first thing in the morning then I slept for two hours .

Don’t judge every day like your first you need to remember that these guys have a job to do and they need to assess your capabilities so as to do a specific exercise table so yeah they’ll say push yourself and sometimes you get in that situation when you do go too far and then you’ll realize that pacing is the magic word.

Please do the course and give it your all as if you don’t push yourself you’ll become weaker and weaker and as you age extremely frail calcium loss , falling over etc etc .

Hi Johno, I have had 4 other meetings with these people and they are off with the pixies -- it is all mediation and that type of stuff I have been able to do ALL and MORE of the stuff they have suggested and they have witnessed it and said I am very fit and supple but I am unable to STAND up or walk for more than about 5 mins without unbearable pain, I can do all the bending/stretching/floor exercises/push ups/ etc -- I can lift weighs BUT I don't because it compresses my spine and gives me HELL, I am even unable to carry a full watering can to feed my plants as my spine has collapsed and has fractures but they don't seem to get this through their heads and keep telling me that after about 2 years it may get better with thought control-- I am 82 FGS and if I go on like this I don't want to suffer for another 2 years like this with NO help.
They did not have one comfortable chair in the place NOT one and no stools and they are a PAIN CLINIC! -- I took my own stool because I have to sit in a fetal position because of my back.
This was done at a Public Hospital I do not know if that makes a difference, but it was all meditation and positive thinking, which I believe in but I also believe in reality. It was just another talkfest like all the others were. This is the 4th one I have attended and it was 6 hours.
I do exercises at home always have, BUT I CAN NOT STAND OR WALK for any length of time-- I am unable to do my own shopping or walk to my letterbox and which is a bit further than most letterboxes.
For my age, I am as fit as a mallee bull, strength and supple wise.

Hey WAP,

You say that you can do all the exercises that they suggest but don’t because it puts you in a world of pain , well don’t do them and explain to them why and let them then work out something that is more suitable for you and your limitations PACING my dear PACING this is the magic word do what you can but pace yourself .
You could probably run a marathon but you don’t because you would be layed up for the next twelve months ,have you spoken to your doctor about going to a pain physician ,as they could possibly do some nerve ablations to give you some small amount of relief .
If you are extremely supple have you considered yoga it could be a welcome aid giving you some relief .
I hope this helps
Johnno
Ps.
I’ll keep thinking of anything else you could use

Johno I said I CAN do the exercises except for the weightlifting that is the one that gives me trouble as it compresses my spine further-- the only thing I am unable to do is to stand or walk for a length of time standing or walking gives me the pain the exercises don't bother me it is being on my feet that is the trouble--the pain I get is dreadful burning and pins and needles in both legs to my ankles.
I have done and still do yoga I am really fit for my age could I run a marathon NO WAY as I have said it is being on my feet for more than 5 mins that gives me the pain.
Yes I have been to a Pain specialist 10 years ago and the same one 4 months ago --both time he said he could operate but the outcome may not be good.
I was having pain from 1972 -- but I coped with it well but over the years it has got worse and is still getting worse.

I did think I spelled it out plainly in the post above? your last one.

Hi WAP,

I understand that for a lady of your age that you are extremely fit and it’s probably your fitness which is an absolute bonus I’m in the same situation where sitting ,standing, walking , driving anything to do with the lumbar spine stuffs me , I hope you didn’t think I was telling you what to do I apologise if that’s what you though.
I do know that any exercise involving standing or movement through the hips knocks me up so I can’t use an exercise bike, cross trainer, treadmill etc I can use the bands for upper body work .
I didn’t realize you had seen pain specialist ,I just know that the nuerotomy has helped me it’s day surgery (3hours) and they burn the nerves to give some relief .
Please accept my apologies I was only trying to help in any small way as sometimes someone can give you an idea or another way of helping relieve pain .
Many regards
Johno

Well my GP has been in touch with the Neuro Surgeon and we have made an appointment for about 3 weeks away for me to see him again -- last time was 11 years ago and he wanted d to operate then but said due to the condition of my vertebrae -- Osteoporosis -- there may be a problem, I am very concerned about having an operation -- -- it sounds like it would be a Laminectomy -- due to the compression and the Osteoporosis -- I would of course have to have another MRI -- I hope of the total spine -- as I do have trouble in the Thoracic region which I did not have b4.

I was wondering if anyone else had, had this operation and what was the outcome, I also have a lung problem and may not be able to have an Anesthetic. What amount of time to get over the Opp, downsides etc

Thanks
