Johnno, I get the UNBEARABLE pain if I stand up or walk!!!!!!!!!! THAT is necessary for everyday life! I get some relief when I sit with my knees up to my chest -- as soon as I am on my feet it is back again. The pain is so bad that I am unable to concentrate.

Oh, how I would LOVE to be able to switch off the pain ---

Body clock is NOT going to switch of this pain that has a definite cause -- for crying out loud Johnno, do you think I have not tried EVERYTHING!!

Hi Peter

I've just joined up after reading your contributions. Many others writing here have also been very helpful.

What you wrote about L5-S1 naturally fusing with no surgery is spot on. I'm the same.

I am 6 foot 6 and was a lethal fast bowler in my day... but now I'm retired at 43 and going for a TPD claim. Neck discs n facet joints are stuffed. Psoriatic arthritis as well.

To the thread topic Norspan; a new pain specialist suggested it and said my 2 x 30/15mg Targin and PRN 10mg Oxynorm are "the limit".

I'm not sure about buprenorphine. I've read a lot and am science trained. I dispute I'm at "the limit" of oxycodone per day (ie ~100mg morphine equivalent). Opioid rotation is often useful but I doubt buprenorphine is that good and the patches might lead to new psoriasis patches (and I'm very hairy so need to clip!).

Anyway, GP next week so we'll see.

Anyone else get absolutely no drowsiness or any other side effects from oxycodone? Once took 40mg oxycodone IR (Oxynorm) on top of Targin - no side effects. My liver enzymes... genetic testing on my to do list.

Great forum and any "lurkers" reading - please SIGN UP AND JOIN IN :)

@MickeyD

Welcome to the CPA Forum!

Yes, natural fusing was the best decision I ever made about my spine, other than bending the knees when lifting.

I am so sensitive to drugs that the strongest I can tolerate now is Codeine. And boy is it a crap drug. Even at the low doses I use, I get headaches and feel like I have cold symptoms, not to mention the often bouts of constipation. But, it keeps me moving. I can go without it and have no psych effect or pain that goes through the roof. My pain levels are already above 8 out of 10 while taking the drug, so there is no real increase. What does happen is that I become very stiff and I feel my neuropathic pain in my spinal column start to flare slightly. The body wide chronic pain that I get, does increase a little sometimes, but in general it doesn't blow out on me.

Now, that is all when things are going well. If there is a change in the weather coming, I get sick or I have over done something and there is a flare up coming, AND I forget my tablets, then I know all about it.

Hey Mickey D,
Bup patches made me super sick as does ketamine, I was on 100mg /day of tramadol with hardly any effect, 500mg tapentadol with little effect, tried hydromorphone , duragesic, 2 anti spasmodically and about 3 anti - epileptics and a few antidepressants- not all at the same time of course- there are a few others I can’t remember, but I either get super crook or it has no effect worthwhile.. so I’m back on plain old panadeine forte, but I need 90mg min of codeine for any effect so can only take a few times a day cause of the paracetamol! Drs won’t give me plain codeine. I get absolutely no constipation with no laxatives. The one drug that works for me is endone, and they won’t write a script for it. Have a scs that worked for 18mths and now my pain is back to a 6-9/10.
Strange how some of us aren’t sensitive to some drugs.
My e/lft’s Are fine too but have to watch cause of the paracetamol.
Good luck to u!:)

Hi Nessa

I'm sorry to read of your troubles with various meds. It's a shame your docs won't prescribe codeine alone.. i don't think paracetamol is good, for me at least, especially long term.

I found Endone (ie 5mg IR oxycodone) too small a dose, and am "allowed" 1 box of Oxynorm (ie 10mg IR oxycodone) per month - no authority prescription required so presumably "easier" to prescribe.

I do hope you're able to have codeine or some form of oxycodone prescribed and find relief.

Given codeine metabolises to morphine, have you ever been prescribed a form of morphine?
