Pain specialist recommendations was created by Simmo78
Hi two years ago my G.P and pain specialist was forced to retire after an accident.
Since then my pain has been poorly managed by my current pain specialist, I was wondering if anyone has a good private or public pain specialist they can recommend in the Brisbane or Ipswich areas
I have multiple ruptured discs after a car accident 7 years ago sciatica in both legs arthritis in both hips and I get bad neck pain and migraines from the whiplash

Hi Simmo,

Welcome to the CPA Forum!

It's such a common problem that we end up with different physicians and our health goes sideways. I can't help you, but Johnno might be able to suggest some clinicians to you. He lives in Brisvegus as he tells us, but he is currently on holidays in Pommy Land.

He might see this and answer it, but he'll have to give you the information in a private message, because we cannot put the names of any clinicians on the forum.

I hope you are able to find the right people to help you. Anyway, stick around and keep talking.

Peter

Thank you Peter yes he was a great help I will make a appointment Monday.
It’s terrible I was under the care of my last doctor for 5-6 years and went from barely being able to walk and in a ambulance every second week to start finally recovering from the trauma of the accident, my doctor was that brilliant that I was able to buy a caravan and start travelling around Australia, after my doctors accident I had to find a new doctor and pain specialist as he was all in one, my new pain specialist told me my doctor was prescribing 5 x the legal limits of medication
I was taking 125 -135mg of oxytocin twice daily and 30mg anamorph which I cut in half because I have an allergic reaction to endone
My medication over the time I was with him only ever went down but he always said you will know when you are ready.
Under my new pain specialist I have had 2 medication changes in 4 months first to fentanil patches I cannot remember the strength and then to MS Contin 105mg morning and night going through this was too much for my partner of 12 years and she finally couldn’t bare seeing me and on the second change she decided to end our relationship.
6 months after that I went from being able to travel around Australia to barely being able to wind up the legs and connect the caravan so I finally gave up the idea of being able to travel again sold my caravan and bought a house,
Since then my specialist has forced me to drop my medication every 6 months by 15mg day and night without any improvement in my condition actually quite the opposite
I used to walk my dogs 3 times a day
Now I can barely get up and down my front stairs I have to pay someone to come in twice a week to help me clean as I can no longer do my own washing as my pain is now so high and constant I finally said I cannot take another drop I’m in too much pain, as soon as I did I was told I’m becoming immune to the medication and we need to do another medication swap back to OxyContin but now at 30mg day and night even my gp said holy dooly this could cause a heart attack it’s that big a drop and I have nothing left I can give I have lost my ex , my ability to travel, my ability to take care of myself the only thing left I can give is my life and I’m not ready to give her that!

Hi Simmo,

Good that Johnno was able to give you some assistance.

Yes, I know your story well. We hear it so many times by so many people lately and as sad and distressing it is for those of us going through it, it has now become common place. It's terrible what they are doing.

Not sure if there will be any help for those of us who are copping the worst of this overreaction to Opioid use, but be assured that there are good people out there fighting to try and bring some commonsense to the whole debate and hopefully slow down the destructive decisions made by the govt and clinicians.

Anyway, best of luck and keep us informed on how you get on.
