Hi all,

Is anyone currently undertaking the Macquarie University Online Pain Management Course? Or have you undertaken it already? I seem to recall that we have one or two members who were due to start one of these courses a few weeks (or more) back and I was wondering how you are going?

We have had some really good reports from people who have done the course which I think is still in trial phase, although I may not be correct there!

Hello Mary,

I know this is a very late reply to your question. I have had some huge battles this year and have been absent form this wonderful forum for quite some time now. My battles are a long way from over, but I have thankfully improved. The pancreas is a truly rotten organ to have something go wrong with!

I have just completed this online course. It was a good reminder of how far I have come in my journey of living with CP x 2! In my earlier days, I completed two short pain management courses through Fremantle Hospital and Sir Charles Gardner Hospital, unfortunately due to distance involved from home, I have not been able to do their more intensive 6 week courses.

Unfortunately, I did not learn anything new in the Macquarie University online course, it did however reinforce how I manage my daily life. The big thing I struggle with is "pacing" , my enemy!! As you know pacing is vital when living with CP and there was a good amount of course content on that.

One of my biggest beliefs in living with CP x 2, is being 100% honest and realistic with myself, accepting my limitations and the need to put myself first for the majority of the time. This doesn't come easy to us women who are experts at putting everyone else first!

I would thoroughly recommend this course to anyone whom has not participated in any pain courses before. Each participant is linked to a clinician whom gives you a weekly call for a discussion on the course content which was fabulous!

Thank you so much for the feedback Florrie. It comes in handy to know that people recommend the course. I think it is especially useful for rural people and people who are unable to travel or cannot access any other pain management courses.

I am sorry to hear that your battles are still ongoing. I agree that we women do find pacing difficult. I am finding this out for about the 3rd year in a row now! I always end up a mess before Christmas. I think I should start preparing for Christmas in about July and then when other things crop up, I will not have that to worry about. lol.

Thanks again for the feedback and I hope that you have a lovely, low pain Christmas 🙂
