Nerve pain after surgery

Hi all just dropping a line to see if anyone has any ideas on how to reduce nerve pain after surgery.
I have just undergone 5 level fusion over 2 operations. One through the front for s1 to l5.then through the side and the back for the rest.
Si central surgery I've suffered excruciating nerve pain .I'm on a whole tablet regime but doesn't seem to be doing g much.
If I could of got a gun yesterday I would not be writing this now.And my partner hid the tablets so I couldn't take too many
Anyway slightly better day today but was hopeful there may be an ointment or essential oil that someone has used to help cope with the nerve pain
