An interesting subject that i have been researching is how much effect the environment has on natural melatonin, and I have found that part of my sleep problem could be the lighting in the room that I spend 90% of my life in, my computer room. I like to be in a well lit room with very few shadows, so I have a large fluoro fitted in a relatively small room, I also have my computer screen set to its brightest setting, and this where I spend my long torturous nights. From now on I will darken the room at night and see if it helps, I will keep everybody posted on the results.
You might like to check the following website, or do a search on computers and sleep problems. Hope this helps.

Brad and Gordon,

That's a huge big red flag suggesting drugs from a health food store, while Brad is currently minimizing the drugs he has been on. Not only that, Brad has been on a rather extensive cocktail of drugs, and mixing Melatonin with it, could have disastrous effects.

And I saw in a post yesterday where Brad says he is now on heart medication.

You cannot take anything else now, unless you have it okayed by your doctor, because there are drugs out there that seriously clash with homoeopathic medication.

Big big red flag on this and you MUST be very careful what you take Brad!

Gordon, please don't take offence at this reply, because I know you meant no harm, but I have to give this warning, because it is not only a risky thing to do, but Brad is also not in a very good place and simply cannot take anything more unless his doctor gives the okay.

Retread,

There's no need to apologise. And it is good that we go through this exercise on the forum, because people then get to read these posts and realise that they simply cannot take over the counter drugs from health shops, without letting their doctors know. It isn't about giving the Doctors veto, it is simply about looking after ourselves, because people have died in the past after having serious complications from drug reactions.

I think one classic is St. John's Wort and the effect it has on some heart medication. I think there was a serious accident or death attributed to that and from then on, they have warned that it is a dangerous practice to do this without proper care and including your doctor and pharmacist.

All's well my friend. We just need to make sure we keep ourselves on the straight and narrow, lest we make ourselves even sicker for no good reason.

Thank you for your positive response too!

Spot on there Peter St Johns Wart, Slippery Elm is a real big no no with heart meds, another is a fruit a lot of people like, grapefruit. I was trialled on melatonin tablets after sleeping tablets, and I have mentioned a few times a medication bringing on my angina, this happens to be that medication, it is one of the unlisted side effects on the product disclosure printout, my GP had to research the manufacturers website to get the complete clinical trials to find this out.
My advice before taking any over the counter or natural medications consult your GP and also do some research on clinical trials as not all side effects are listed only the ones that effect the larger population.

Don

Just to let you know, if you are on any Anti Depressants, St Johns wort can be fatal it can cause Seritonin syndrome which can cause some very nasty symptoms including dead.

Sorry not to be labour the point just thought it was good to know.
