I might be transferring with work to Uluru and was just wondering if there is any pain clinics in Alice springs or if the medical centre there will even be able to supply my meds ( OxyContin) and if I will need a different type of script because I'm moving interstate.any info would be fantastic, cheers,Tom

Oxy there is a sports injury pain clinic at Uluru ( Alice Springs ) which also deals in neck and back pain and motor vehicle accidents, GP clinics and a hospital yes, so getting your meds should not be a problem after getting your files transferred from your current doctors. Being a control substance they will have get approval and I don't know who is in control of that in NT but I am sure once you find a good GP they will sort it out for you. Your current script can also be filled so you will be covered for pain relief.

Wow, off to Uluru. This sounds like a step in a better direction Tom!
I hope you don't mind the heat, because I think it gets a bit warmer out there in the middle of our country.

As Don says, they have most of the services out there and once you get yourself established with a new GP, you shouldn't have any issues.

Best of luck Mate and I hope the change turns out to be a huge positive one for you!

Well done Tom! That sounds fantastic. I hope you will be able to let us know how you are going. It's somewhere I have always wanted to go, but I have never got around to going there.

As the guys said, once you have found a GP you will be ok. See if you can get your records transferred before you go.

Congratulations Tom! How exciting for you and it's not far off either. The Tali Wiru dining experience sounds to die for too! If ever we get up that way in our caravan, we must consider that.

I hope the move isn't too taxing on you - remember pacing, pacing, pacing as my Dr. would say πŸ™‚

Have fun and keep us posted when you have time.

Tom

Congratulations mate, grab this by both hands and don't let go.

congrats wit the new job and the move- what a wonderful location, i used to be quite a keen photographer and that would be a great location!!! as for finding a new doctor there, maybe whoever looks after your pain here could make a referral to someone, and send either a copy of your records or a summary as an introduction.

will you have help with the physical side of moving eg packing and unpacking- i moved this time last year and i really did need that extra hand but definately remember the pacing stuff. will you have enough time so you can do the move and have a few days break before starting at the new job so you are a bit more rested - would be good if you could!!

once again, congratulations!one of the effects of chronic health issues such as chronic pain is that it is easy to avoid major changes in you life such as moving interstate and changing jobs- good on you for not letting ourself being tied to one spot by your pain

Thanks everyone for the well wishes.my doctor will do up a treatment summary for me on my next appointment to take with me to the medical centre there.apparently they have specialists in once a month so hopefully this might be a step in the right direction for my pain as well. When I arrive I think we have a two day orientation after a day to get settled so hopefully I will be rested up, really want to get a few days off before I got to say goodbye to the handful of friends I have and take some time out before the big move. I'm looking forward to doing some star gazing out there, I heard its fantastic.im so happy to be moving on!

Tom there will be nothing to upset the view, no bright city lights to dull the stars just you and big open spaces, may take a couple of days to get use to not having all the traffic noise, and the new noises of the outback to serenade you to sleep.

grappers, ou make it sound absolutely wonderful! I would love to go o the Alice some day, its sad that in my younger days when i travalled a lot, travel in Australia was more expensive than outside so i did more overseas trips they were great but it means there is so much of even SA i have never been too- i would love to try the ghan from delaide to Darwin but last time i enquired they said it was not an option for someone like me especially travelling alone- but there is something special about the thought of being in the centre of such a big relatively empty continent- when i was 11 and we first flew to Australia i remember the pilot saying we were over alice springs and yet when i looked out the window it was so flat and red/brown in color- its always had an attraction since then but friends have told me i am mad when i say thaat

Well, today (almost LOL) is the day, flight at 730, so have to be up at 5 to get to the airport, had a lovely weekend though with a few friends and mum and dad πŸ™‚ roast duck dinner as the last supper followed by 15yr old single malt and a no.3 Cuban with the old man to wash it down with.could get used to that :woohoo: kinda anxious, but also so excited.got a full medical history printout and an email pertaining as such to the local medical centre so hopefully all will run smoothly with my next GP.its kinda sad but true that this is one of my worst fears leaving such a great doc to step out into the unknown, but hey chronic pain cannot rule my life, so I'm staying positive here.will post some pics when I get a chance.p.s started pain course today, questionnaire and some of the lessons etc. Looks very informative, looking forward to learning more..cheers everyone, will let you know what its all like there, hugs, Tom
