I have been on pain medication heavy opiates for about 13 years im talking Durogesic. I was put on this by my GP at the time after other pain medications did not suit or work.
I have suffered with chronic back pain for many years. I originally had a nasty fall from a horse where i was hung up in the stirrups and dragged on a gravel road for about 100 metres, i healed well but over the years and with the work i was doing made my back much worse to a point where i had to give up the work i was doing. I had been seen by many many specalist was told it would gradually get worse and to live with it the best way i could. I had even received a total and permanant disability pay out by my super.
I have now a dengenerative disease of the spine i have calcific tendernites and bursites of both my shoulders which i had one of them operated on but it did not work it came straight back i suffer with chronic sciatic nerve pain i also have had issues with painful muscle spasms as well in my legs i could go on and on. I had tried several pain meds before being put on Durogesic some which didnt help with the pain and others like Norspan that made me sick. I had been on Durogesic 75 for many years and i am very happy to say i am now down to Durogesic 25 so have dereased it a lot i am feeling more pain in my back and legs but i am coping ok.
I had been under a pain specalist in Sydney for many years and they had said that my current meds were best and to stay on them. Which i had and in saying that i find that it was wrong for them at the time to keep me on the 75 the dose i was on. The doctor i was under retired and that forced me to find another pain specslist which i have but im very worried over the deceitful way they are handling my situation. Yes it has been through this specialist that i hve gne from the 75 down to the 25 and its obvious i was being over medicated but i am now concerned over this drs motive.
My first vsit to this pain specalist i was concerned straight up as my medical history of medication was frowned on. The pain doctor said all my pain was coming from my medication and not my condition it was all due to my brain pain receptors being flooded with medication and i was told that i would be reduced down and eventually be fliped over to another medication norspan 40 and i would be kept on that so i was told but i needed to get down to Duro 25 which i am now at. But they have totally disregarded that they have been told that norspan makes me ill to where i am vomiting all the time on it thats why i was given Durogesic to start with for one and secondly i have read a letter that my pain specalist sent to my gp and it states that i will be changed over to norspan and then to be weaned of that and left with no medication. On my last visit to the specalist it was not discussed with me or my partner about being left with no medication at all none of this was mentioned all we were told is that i will change over and be left on that. Im so scared and worried im very anxious now over what my future holds and i feel like i have lost all trust in this pain dr over her being deceitful i cried in my gps office over this and i feel like she wasnt listening about my concerns either please help with some advice i dont know what to do.
