Is there such a thing? I've travelled numerous times from Hobart to Melbourne to see specialists. Does anyone know if there's anything?

Hi Kate,

The only thing I could find is the PATS scheme. If you look at this page: http://www.ruralhealthaustralia.gov.au/internet/rha/publishing.nsf/Content/Patient_Assisted_Travel_Schemes, scroll down a bit to the list of states, you will find the Tassie link to the health dept page, plus there is the Vic link too.
I don't know if any of this will help you, but it could be worth a phone call the Tassie health dept to find out if they support travel to specialists on the mainland.

It's difficult when we have to travel to see a specialist. Other than this scheme, I don't know how else you could get any assistance, except maybe from Centrelink??

So do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide, is what to do with the time that is given to us. (Gandalf the Grey)

Hey Kate, not sure if you are on private or public health insurance, but maybe Medicare does factor that sort of expense into their safety net scheme?otherwise I suppose if you had a good accountant their might be a way of claiming at least some of this expense on your tax,as you need the specialist in order to be treated and return to work?good luck Kate hope you manage to get it all sorted out, would be good to know this sort of thing and post the answer in the forum somewhere for everybody to benefit from.take care,Tom
