hi everyone, just popping in, thought i would tell you my latest, i had been complaining for many months about a new area of pain, and kept getting its referred pain, or its muscular or just brushed off, well went to see my surgeon at my own prompting not my regular 6mth check up, and i almost had to beg her to get my back scanned, but the whole spine, not just lumber or cervical, something is happening in the middle, well she was worried about how much radiation that would be!!!! seriously i dont care about that, anyway the scans showed that 3 vertebrae in my thoracic area had collapsed, there was no disc space between the bones and they were in a big mess - her words! so she said it was so bad, she wanted her colleague to help, so they cut through my right side, and 2 ribs and went in under my rib cage to get to the levels that had to be fused.. so ICU - i remember nothing!!!ward wasnt too bad, they had me on a PCA and a Ketamine infusion, then 2 days ago transferred to rehab! all the good pain relief gone!!! now its 2 endone, farout i am hurting so bad and the physios are trying to kill me im sure, i am hurting so much
the scans also showed my cervical fusion is loose, and screw needs replaced, but they cant do it at same time as this surgery, plus basically every level in lumbar spine had something going on
i cant keep having surgery after surgery, but i also cant be living with the pain either... at this point i want to pack it in and go to sleep and never wake up... no more pain!!!!
thanks for listening and reading about my bit at moment,
Wow, that is some hell you're going through. And really sorry to hear that they have cut your pain meds down to the minimum.
I am so glad I never had a fusion operation. My L5S1 joint had no disc at all in 1997 and the surgeon told me that if I can continue to exercise and have some pain meds to help and tolerate the pain, then he said, never let anyone put a knife in your back. So I didn't and everything he said has come true.
I still suffer some pain from there if I stand too long, but the sciatic pain is no longer there every second of the day, and the joint/s are pretty good. If I stand too long, then I feel like someone has pushed red hot irons into my leg, buttocks, back, hips, etc. So I just watch what I'm doing. And of course, I don't bend over to pick stuff up or use my back like that.
I hope your back responds to the physio quickly and the pain levels come right down so you can get by with the lower pain meds dose.
Thanks for coming in to update us. I was wondering how you were getting on.

hi, just updating, i had my 6week post op review and the surgeon is happy with the xrays and how i am doing, i am currently able to sit around 30-40 mins before that pain starts to sear through my thoracic spine, so that is a big improvement to my pre surgery sitting of 10mins
i still need to have my neck fusion revised, to get the loose screw fixed, they will need to extend the current fusion, so it will be c3-c7 and my lower back continues to cause me grief, but little can be done as it is alot of nerve damage and arthritis, the only positive is that my spinal cord stimulator continues to hold off my nerve spasms at night
hope everyone had a good xmas and new year
Can you give me any idea of how much improvement was made by scs and have you had any issues with it.
My pain specialist is recommending one for my nerve pain after s1 to l2 fusion but nerve pain has increased since surgery.
