Basically, the AIS middle management, for operational and administrative convenience, plan to close one of the only saunas + plunge pool facilities in the ACT to the public. They cite 'public safety' as the reason yet it will remain open to elite athletes...either elite athletes are better at looking after themselves OR the AIS doesn't care about their safety!
I use it 4 + times / week. Some people use it daily to deal with their problems. It also provides a valuable social network.
I have chronic pain from a string of work related accidents + CFS/fibromyalgia - the pain keeps me awake at night and that makes me tired. The sauna/plunge pool induce a pain free deep restorative sleep leaving me better able to cope with the next day, the pain and lethargy, plus it stimulates my immune system to better deal with bugs especially during winter. I find I"m always on the verge of developing a cold sore or flu-like symptoms, no matter how much rest I get.
Please support us so we have somewhere warm to treat ourselves in the looming Canberra winter.
Thank you Patrick. I just wanted some more information right here on the forum; plus it's good to hear a bit more of your story too.
I can appreciate that you need the warm water. I also find it very beneficial, but here in Adelaide, I would have to travel for 30 minutes to access a pool that doesn't cost me a small fortune so I can float on a noodle for 30 minutes!
I will sign your petition.
Not every day is a good day, but there is good in every day.
